Main Learning Objectives - Numeracy: Measure
Estimate, compare and measure lengths, weights and capacities, choosing and using standard units (m, cm, kg, litre) and suitable measuring instruments.
Frog High Jump
Pupils set the high jump bars to the correct height for each jump. After the frogs have made all their jumps, pupils must find the best jump of each frog, using data from a table.
Ostrich Long Jump
After each ostrich has made its jump, the pupil drags out the measuring tape to measure the distance, and enters the result into a table.
At the Vets
Ask the pupils to measure the height and length of, an weigh, the animals. The pupils results are recorded on a second screen. Lots of opportunities to draw out comparison language and to discus reading scales with unmarked intervals.
Measuring Lines - Make 1m
Ask the pupils to join sets of 2 or more lines to add up to 1 metre.
Measuring Boxes - Make 1 kg
Ask pupils to find sets of parcels, that when together, make 1 Kilogram.
Measuring Jugs - Make 1 litre
Drag jugs down from the shelf to fill up the 1 litre bottle, 'banking' each bottle as the target is reached.
Measure and Interval Maker
Create your own ruler or scales to measure weight, height, and length. Can pupils work out the value of the smaller markers? Can pupils read the scales/ruler?
Measure Capacity
Work out the capacity of each container by pouring it into the measuring jug and working out the value using the scale.
Comparing Line Lengths
Ask pupils to build sentences to discribe the length of the lines in relation to each other.

Main Learning Objectives - Numeracy: Time
Use units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days) and know the relationships between them. Read the time to the quarter hour. Identify time intervals, including those that cross the hour.

Start the race and see who is fastest. Read the scale on the graph to record the results.

Woodland Positions
Main Learning Objectives - Numeracy: Positional Language
A set of activities to practice using positional language. The topic uses everyday words to describe position and direction, with a friendly woodland theme.
At the Picnic
In this activity, the pupil chooses positional words to complete a range of sentences.
Words in the Wood
In this activity, the pupil completes a range of sentences by dragging the appropriate positional words into place. The focus this time is the positions of the woodland creatures in relation to each other.
Woodland Disco
This activity asks the pupils to place three animals into position in relation to the three tree stumps. When positioned correctly the class is rewarded with the animals dancing at the woodland disco!
Picnic Positions
Pupils are given instructions (with sound support) to place the animals in various positions in relation to the objects in the scene. Eg "Put the bear on top of the log".
Tree Positions
Pupils are given instructions (with sound support) to place the animals in various positions in relation to the others. Eg "Put the owl next to the bear".
Dance Moves
Pupils follow instructions to move Bear up, down, left or right. When Rabbit calls out the direction, the pupil must click on the corresponding arrow to move Bear.

Through these activities pupils can practice using ordinal numbers within a range of different contexts.
Racing Snails
The snails are having a race! Watch to see who wins. Who will you give the 1st place rosette to?
Pupils learn the meaning of 1st, 2nd and 3rd through the context of racing.
Lining Up
This activity tests the child's knowledge of ordinal numbers by using each ordinal position in isolation. The positions '1st' to '5th' are generated randomly and the child must order the characters out of usual numerical sequence.
Flower Show
This activity tests the pupils sequencing skills as well as knowledge of ordinal numbers. This time, the child moves the items into ordinal place, rather than labeling them.

Main Learning Objectives - Numeracy: Measure & Size
Our topic this month focuses on measuring and is suitable for kindergarten stage. Within a farm context, pupils can compare size and weight, as well as ordering, labeling and sorting the animals.
Animal Scales
A simple activity to compare the weight of two animals. Drag the animals onto the scales and watch the scales adjust to their weight! Predict what will happen to the scales when a different animal is put on.
Biggest First
Order the farm animals in terms of size. This activity promotes order skills and discussion of relative size.
Relative Size
Re-size animals in proportion to each other, and then place them in the right doorways.
Size Sorting

This month our topic focuses on different aspects of time. The activities range from straightforward time telling (and clock setting) to those that help with the concept of duration and activity overtime.
The Clock Struck
A simple game version of the 'Hickory Dickory Dock' Rhyme. Practice setting the clock to send the mouse down. Helps teaching how the position of the clock hand shows a particular time.
How Long?
Use the countdown to time and record the number of times your pupils can carry out a repetitive action. This activity helps your pupils get a strong sense of duration.

Work out how many presents you can buy with your budget. Use this activity to consolidate number bond knowledge, with the opportunity to model lots of calculation strategies and differentiate for a wide range of abilities.
Present Buyer Game
In this game, the activity will set the values of how many presents you need to buy along with the money you must spend. A further challenge for higher ability pupils is to choose the ‘price labels off’ option. Much more information has to be held in the child’s head – i.e. the price of the toys chosen, the running total and how much is left to spend.

Mend Santa's Sleigh
Create a scene of Santa and Rudolf setting off to deliver Christmas presents. Pupils can create as many designs as they wish. This activity can be used to re-write the story of Santa's journey, starting with a verbal discussion.
Dress Santa
This activity requires mouse/IWB control and sequencing skills to drag and place the clothes on Santa and his Elf.
Christmas Label Maker
Pupils can create personalised labels by choosing designs and adding text either by typing or choosing the relevant words from the drop down wordbank.
Wrapping Paper Designer

This topic encourages pupils to experiment with rotating and layering shapes to make patterns. The present stacker puzzle is a practical, playful way of exploring the properties of shapes, fitting them together to block out space.

Create a beautiful night sky by filling it with your own stars. Pupils can make bespoke stars by choosing different variables of colour, size, number of points and transparency. As stars are made up of overlapping triangles there's maths to discuss as well!

Tree Symmetry - Teaching Tool
A gentle introduction to symmetry. Place baubles onto the right side of the tree to mirror those given on the left. There is an option to overlay with a grid. Selecting 'mirrored baubles' shows the baubles mirrored in the correct places. For differentiation purposes, and to enable progression, there is a choice of between 1 and 5 baubles.

A creative activity involving geomtric shapes, re-sizing and rotation. Design and build your own Christmas tree. What colours and shapes will you use? Print out your design to make a card!
Tree Symmetry - Game
Place baubles onto the right side of the tree to mirror those given on the left. The 'check' button gives a tick to those baubles that are placed correctly.
Christmas Decoration Maker
This simple tool will create a range of rotated patterns - LOGO style. They can be dragged to decorate the tree. Use this to stimulate rotational pattern making using plastic shapes, paper or natural materials.
